EVERYTHING IS READY FOR THE SUPER-G ON DECEMBER 27: TWO DAYS OF SPORT AND ENTERTAINMENT, IN TRUE LIVIGNO STYLE

When speed meets art: the first-ever World Cup stage in the history of the resort will be an unmissable event.

Livigno, 17/12/2025 – There are special occasions when a resort doesn’t just host an event: it interprets it, elevates it, and transforms it into a cultural and sporting experience that leaves a mark.

This is exactly what will happen on December 26 and 27, when Livigno, together with the Lombardy Region and the Italian Winter Sports Federation (FISI), will host its first-ever historic World Cup stage. The International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS) has just given its approval: the Tagliede – Li Zeta slope is in perfect condition to host what will be an unprecedented Super-G, designed to become one of the most recognizable symbols of this sporting season leading up to the 2026 Olympic Games.

A project that combines vision, technical expertise, and the uniquely Livigno ability to turn every event into a story, in continuity with the growth path of one of the leading resorts in the European and global winter sports scene.

It’s a historic winter season for Lombardy and our Valtellina: Milan, Bormio, and Livigno will host competitions for the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympics in February, the ultimate showcase of winter sports,” said Massimo Sertori, Lombardy Regional Councillor for Mountains and Local Authorities. “But it’s not just about the Games: on December 27, Valtellina will also take center stage in the men’s Alpine Skiing World Cup. Livigno will host an exciting Super-G race. The collaboration between the Region, Valtellina, Bormio, and Livigno has been truly effective and efficient. Facing challenges together, in a cohesive way, is the most effective way to achieve our goals.”

The two-day event will kick off on December 26 with an eagerly awaited and highly innovative prologue. In the afternoon, Plaza dal Comun in Livigno will host the presentation of Kristian Ghedina’s autobiographical book—one of the most iconic figures in Italian skiing—followed by an experience destined to remain in collective memory: the Bib Draw Show, the traditional bib-drawing ceremony transformed into a live spectacle with music, art, choreographed performances, and direct interaction between athletes and the public. This format reflects the personality of the resort: elegant, energetic, and capable of seamlessly blending sport, entertainment, and culture, a quality recognized throughout the international circuit.

On race day, another absolute first awaits fans: they will be able to ski the race course alongside Kristian Ghedina and Giorgio Rocca just a few hours before the competition. This unique opportunity opens the world of elite sport to an unprecedented level of participation, allowing spectators to feel truly part of a historic moment. Then, at 11:30, the Super-G will kick off on a course designed to become iconic.

“Livigno is not only a hub for tourism but also a land of competition, and we are extremely pleased to have launched a joint initiative that will finally bring the World Cup to Livigno’s slopes,” said Flavio Roda, President of the Italian Winter Sports Federation (FISI). “The Li Zeta course is particularly technical: a demanding slope perfectly suited for the men’s Super-G on December 27. It is our hope that the World Cup in Livigno will not be an isolated event, but the start of a long-term path.”

The race will start near Rifugio Costaccia at 2,375 meters, on the Tagliede–Li Zeta slope. An initial smooth section with an 11% gradient soon gives way to a wall that reaches 52%, forming the most technical and selective part of the course. Two large right-hand curves positioned on the steepest sections add further complexity. The finish, with slopes around 40%, leads athletes to a “city finish” in the heart of the resort—a unique feature in the World Cup, designed to offer spectators a spectacular view and to give the new race an immediate identity. The course is intense and complete: 1,535 meters long with a 506-meter vertical drop, created to showcase versatile skiers and provide the international skiing community with a new technical benchmark.

Livigno is fully prepared for this role: technically, organizationally, and emotionally. A territory that lives and breathes sport every day, thanks to its facilities, culture, and community. “The World Cup once again confirms Livigno’s central role in the elite international sports scene,” said Luca Moretti, President of Livigno Next. “A resort that hosts an Olympic Training Center, the European capital of freestyle and snowboarding, and a community that lives and breathes sport year-round—from cycling to swimming, and all winter and endurance sports. Events like those on December 26 and 27 are the natural evolution of a decades-long growth process and an incentive to think even bigger.”

“In Bormio, on the legendary Stelvio slope, the traditional World Cup speed races will not take place, as the men’s Alpine skiing competitions for the Olympic Games will be held in February,” concluded Dario Da Zanche, President of the Bormio Foundation. “The top-tier event therefore moves to Livigno, and I am truly happy for Luca Moretti and his team, who will undoubtedly excel given their proven expertise and efficiency. Together we win: I support an even closer collaboration between Livigno and Bormio, a field where further progress compared to the past is essential.”

The Super-G on December 27 will therefore be much more than a race. It will be a manifesto: of Livigno’s creativity, of its ability to transform a sporting event into a full-fledged experience, and of its vocation as a permanent laboratory for the future of the mountains. Above all, it will be a key piece of the great Olympic winter just around the corner: freestyle and snowboarding will award 26 Olympic titles here, in a calendar that demonstrates the versatility of a resort capable of embracing all aspects of snow sports—from cross-country skiing to Alpine skiing, including the younger and more visionary disciplines. In Livigno, winter is not just beginning: it is elevated. And this year, more than ever, it is ready to rewrite its story.
